A bit more waffle to pass the time.....

.....before the game starts.

I reckon the manufacturers apps preloaded into new cars these days is amazing, but then it would be compared to my previous 16 year old Mondeo. My smartphone connects to the car and logs every movement including time, distance, fuel consumption, cost of journey and amongst other things directs me back to the car if I lose it in a car park.

We had a horrendous day on Mon coming back through the tunnel. Consequently I was able to use the car app info to see just how long we were stuck in the gridlock. It cost 1litre of petrol to do the 2 miles from arrival to loading.

It took 30 mins from arrival to get through auto check-in to passport control, 2hrs 26 mins on the car park then 45 mins on the loading area before getting on the train. It was the worst experience we've had with tunnel. Sweltering heat in the high twenties.

SSHHHHH. You don't want peeps to think you're an old fart.

Actually mrs eezy is the gadget queen. Got more black boxes and remotes than a Boeing 747. I call it mission control. My greatest pleasure is if she goes out, she sets the telly up and says now don't touch anything. 'Course I pick up all the remotes and press buttons in the pursuit of further knowledge. By the time she gets back nothing is working

Re: A bit more waffle to pass the time.....

That is really good Eezy.
TBH I have pretty much given up using the fitted sat nav.  Car reviewers rave about it being intuitive etc.  I call it "traffic hunter" as it seems to search out the worst routes (ie) where there is the most traffic.  Frankly, it's a pile of
I use Waze which is a free app.  All the young people raved about it.  It took a bit of getting used to as it takes you down the back roads.  Here in London, councils go ballistic.  They have spent huge amounts creating traffic jams, spending millions on cycle lanes which are empty most of the day.  Potholes like craters are ignored in favour of installing speed humps and unfathomable road signs.  By using the back roads it seems to cut journey times and ETAs are remarkably accurate.  Waze is owned by Google.  The only downside is that it drains the phone battery so you need an in car charger/lead. Recommended.

JMK, yes I've used Waze but it's been some time, a couple of years or more.

I installed it primarily because my Garmin seemed slow to update with French traffic problems, if at all. At the time Waze was slow to load and react to commands. It sounds like it has improved in that time. It was generally difficult to use. I'm not surprised about Google because they use it for their traffic updates or used to.

I'll have to give it another try

Re: A bit more waffle to pass the time.....

Gotta agree with JMK about Waze Eezy, I hate sat-navs and still use a map or at least look at google the night before to get an idea of where I am heading to but I use Waze at work occasionally and it really does manage to avoid the traffic.Reminds me of the maps app on the work iPad that we all used to use.....until work realised it was ramping up their data costs and told us not to use it any more - pah .
Waze is still a lot better than that though.
