Channel Ports gridlocked

4 or 5 hours delay at the tunnel, what's happening?

Cannot believe it is the heat alone, which they are blaming. Air-con on the shuttle is poor at the best of times. It seems to me that they just cannot handle the volume of traffic that they are booking in. I would be pretty pee'd off if I was one of those whose day trip was cancelled yesterday as I normally book hotels around the trip.

Our trip a couple of weeks ago was delayed by a couple of hours. It was gridlocked and pretty awful in that heat. Much of the time you are stuck in queues to check-in or embarkation and can't leave the vehicle.

And this is before any changes to Customs due to Brexit. What happens then?

In the meantime best to avoid the Channel ports in peak season.

Re: Channel Ports gridlocked

Yes, the photos in the press and commentary on the news made it look horrendous.
Thankful to not be travelling and experiencing this.
I suspect that it is simply the volume of people trying to get away at the same time which caused the congestion (ie) rush hour for cross channel traffic, so to speak.
Moving on, project fear 2 is well under way with warnings that we are going to run out of food, medicine and pretty much everything else within 24 hours of Brexit. Added to this the EU, I think, was forecasting 50 mile queues at Calais and Dover.
To my mind, its important to remember that these are the same idiots who told us that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that killing Gaddafi would lead to democracy
Doubtless everything will pass off without incident.  If anything things will run smoother than normal .

Re: Channel Ports gridlocked

From a purely selfish point of view, I don't care what happens with Brexit. I've had a comfortable lifestyle up to retirement age and I don't see much changing for the rest of my life.

One thing I will say though is that the Tory party are so far down the road of self destruction we could well see a Labour government next time. That will bring about more change than Brexit.
