Migrants are heading back to Calais.

Several 'secret' camps are in existence. Take care if you stop nearby.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

Up to 50 migrants clashed with police last night at Marcel Doret ind estate. Police were called by lorry drivers when they tried to break into their vehicles. One report states that the dogs were let loose.

Marcel Doret is used by members who go to a wine C&C there so take care.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

I see a byelaw has been passed so that no-one can provide food for the migrants.

I can just imagine the signs.....

Keep off the grass.
Do not feed the pigeons, ducks or migrants.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

Nice one Eezy.

We had a trip recently and did not see any migrants around the Auchan/CWS area in Calais.  They may well be in other areas of the town.
We were surprised to see a load walking along the road in Adinkerke.

For general info, the level of security appears to have been stepped up.
Returning to Calais there were four layers of security to go through before boarding the ferry.
1. French army who looked in the boot of the car and then rather annoyingly walked away without closing it.
2. French border control who looked at our passports.
3. UK border control who looked at our passports.
4. Some other French bloke who looked in the boot.
All of the above was within around 40 yards of each other!

Disembarking at Dover we were instructed to pull over by UKBF.
Questions were:
1. Where had we been?
2. Had we purchased any goods?
3. Could we produce the receipts?
4. How long would our purchases last?

We answered the questions and were allowed to proceed with our journey home.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

These security checks all seem a bit pointless.

There's more of a show on the way out than on the return. We usually get pulled at the tunnel but all they do is use an explosives detector on the steering wheel and door handles but they don't even do that on the way back. In any case what are they going to do if they find anything? They are not combat trained so the only way it could be effective is if they were backed up by armed guards. They are risking their lives, probably for minimum wage.

Of course it's different on the return where cursory random checks are made by armed ''douanes'' or military.

Most of the migrants we see these days are between Dunkirk and the border. I presume the official camp is still at Dunkirk. I see recently, a lot more ''aires'' have been closed off on the approaches to Calais.

Glad your trip went well JMK.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

Up to 600 migrants now settled in 4 camps on the approaches to the port.

As of last night they have started again to build barriers on the road which were subsequently hit by HGV's .One driver was taken to hospital after a missile smashed his windscreen.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

Driver of a Polish regd van was killed on the A16 last night after hitting a lorry which had been stopped by a barrier of tree trunks created by migrants. Nine Eritreans were arrested who had gained access to one of the lorries. Incident was between J49 and 50.

It makes me very angry that the authorities seem to place such low value on human life and the migrants are not removed.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

The Sun reporting here that a new migrant camp has sprung up next to where the old one was:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4184575/new-calais-migrant-camp-jungle-refugees-welcome/

Brit truckers being gassed and robbed:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4174185/migrant-gangs-gas-brit-trucker-poison-spray-before-theft-wallets-mone-clothes/

Until such time as the UK government stops accepting economic migration I can't see this stopping.  The attractions of the UK are too strong a pull and nothing it seems will deter these people from trying to get here.

Re: Migrants are heading back to Calais.

I've seen more migrants since the jungle was removed than before. They seem more daring and aggressive . Previously they targeted trucks but there have been reports of private cars being attacked although I think they were mainly locals.

I'm not sure that the 2 stories are necessarily connected. Tourists were advised not to sleep overnight in the m/way picnic areas because they were being gassed in caravans and motorhomes before being robbed. This was years ago when it was happening but not heard of it recently. There are a lot of travellers (gypseys) in France and they seem to get the blame for most theft crimes.
